IBS Spring Chaplaincy Workshop: “Humble Healing: Narratives, Story, and Silence in Spiritual Care”
April 12 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join us for our spring chaplaincy workshop at the Jodo Shinshu Center in Berkeley.
Stories and the desire to tell them work in multiple ways within the spiritual care setting. We ask: How can chaplains facilitate healing through allowing others to tell their story and make sense of unexpected developments? What narratives from the Buddhist tradition can be of support to chaplains? And in our exploration of spoken words, how might we be sensitive to times when silence is most skillful? The Institute of Buddhist Studies invites you to a gathering of spiritual caregivers as they reflect on these important questions.
Speakers:
Titus George, staff chaplain at Kaiser Permanente San Leandro
Noriko Kawai, hospice chaplain and minister’s assistant at Buddhist Temple of San Diego
Amy Shoemaker, MDiv student and per diem chaplain at Stanford Health Care
Moderators:
Lilu Chen, Associate Professor of Spiritual Care and Interreligious Engagement
Nancy Lin, Professor of Buddhist Chaplaincy, Tibetan and South Asian Studies
In-person participants are invited to a bento lunch following the workshop. Please join us in building community and fostering friendships. Register here for in person attendance.
