Buddhist Education
Through educational programs grounded in the academic study of Buddhism and rooted in a tradition of practice, the Institute of Buddhist Studies empowers students to become effective and engaged scholars, teachers, ministers, and chaplains.
Our stackable curriculum is flexible, allowing students to complete a one-year graduate certificate and apply those units toward a two-year Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies or a three-year Master of Divinity. With both online and on-site programs, full and part time study options, our programs provide both flexibility and structure to meet students’ personal and professional goals.

In addition to IBS’s rare book collection, students enjoy library privileges at some of the top academic and research libraries in the country, including the Graduate Theological Union and the University of California, Berkeley.
Degree program students have opportunities to study Buddhism either Ryukoku University in Kyoto, Japan.
